(Mathematics)

Attached file: pracovni-list-measuring.pdf

Subject: Mathematics
Cross-curricular links: English language
Time: 10-15 minutes
Materials: tabulka a pencil, measuring-tape

  • Tell children what and how to measure on their bodies: height; middle finger; the distance from the elbow to the wrist; foot size, “We’re going to measure how tall you are, your arm span (from your left hand middle finger to your right hand middle finger), from your inner elbow to your wrist, and your foot.“
  • The children work in pairs. If the number of students is odd, join in. Demonstrate how to do the measuring.
  • Write down the data in a table.
  • Finally pay attention to the proportions of the human body – the arm span is roughly the same as the height, the distance frm the inner elbow to the wrist is roughly the same as the size of a foot etc. (see the picture by Leonardo da Vinci).
