SAY & SWAP
(Family)

• Give students pictures of family members.
• Have them work in groups; each group is given several cards.
• Students take turns to take a card and say who is on the card (if a student does not know the answer, another student from his/her group can provide the answer).
• Pictures named are returned to the bottom of the pile.
• Then, mix the cards and repeat the activity.

Alternative 1:

The whole class can play at once. The teacher shows one picture after another; the whole class then names it. The teacher goes through a given group of cards several times.

Alternative 2:

It is the student, not the teacher, who pulls the picture out. Individual students take turns to take pictures, show them to the rest of the class, and name them. If a student does not know the answer, the rest of them can help.

Note:

The activity can be adapted to practise any vocabulary.
