(In the Classroom)
Subject: Humans and their world
Cross-curricular links: English language, Mathematics, Art, Humans and the world of work
Target language: book, chair, child, teacher, table, window; numbers 1-6
Language structures: How many … have you got?
Time: 30 minutes
Materials: handout, dice, scissors, glue
- Give each student the handout representing the classroom plan. Ask the children to cut out the pictures.
- On the blackboard write numbers 1 to 6, representing numbers on a dice.
- Next to each number there is a picture of an object that the children will glue onto the classroom plan according to the number on the dice.
1 desk
2 window
3 child
4 teacher
5 book
6 chair - Draw them on the board as well.
- Children take turns in rolling the dice. Based on the number they get, they draw an object onto their plans. That is, if they get 5, they draw a book; if they get 5 again, they draw another book onto their plan.
- As soon as there is at least one of each object on their classroom plans, they finish the activity.
- Then the children count how many teachers, tables etc. they have got on the handout and write the number down.
Note:
You may play with the whole class (rolling one big dice) or in groups with children taking turns.
