(Body)
Subject: Humans and their world
Cross-curricular links: English language, Mathematics, Art, Humans and the world of work
Target language: arm, ear, eye, leg, mouth, nose; numbers 1 - 6
Language structures: How many…has it/your monster got?
Time: 20-30 minutes
Materials: worksheet, crayons, dice for everyone or one per group
- Each child gets a worksheet on which there is a head and torso in the middle.
- On the board write numbers 1 – 6, representing each side of the dice.
- Next to each number draw simple limbs or facial features, which will then be used for making monsters, e.g.
1 EYE
2 MOUTH
3 NOSE
4 EAR
5 ARM
6 LEG - The children take turns in their groups to roll the dice and according to the number they roll they have to draw the corresponding body part on the face or body of their monster, i.e if they roll a two, they draw the monster’s mouth; if they roll a two again, they draw another mouth, so that each child draws a monster with different numbers of body parts.
- The game finishes as soon as the monster has at least one of each body part.
- Ask the children how many arms, legs, ears, etc the monster has: “How many (arms) has your monster got?”
