(Celebrations)

Subject: Humans and their world
Cross-curricular links: English language
Target language: spider, leg(s); left, right, up, down
Language structures: 10 minut
Time: 3 blindfolds, paper spider’s body and legs, blue-tack

  • During an Art and Design lesson prepare 3 large spiders’ bodies with the children, and 3 sets of 8 separate legs.
  • Fix the spiders’ bodies to the board and line up the children in 3 groups of eight in front of them (any extra children can be the teacher’s helpers, responsible for safety and fair play).
  • Give the child at the front of each group a leg and blindfold them.
  • The blindfolded children (with the aid of a teacher’s helper if available) tentatively go to the board and attach the spider’s legs as best they can. The others in the group give instructions as to where they should go “up/down/left or right”.
  • The winning group is the one who has made the best spider with all the legs in roughly the right place.

Variation:

The same game can be played with snowmen, Pin the nose on the snowman, Christmas trees, Pin the star on the Christmas tree or presents under the Christmas tree, with elephants Pin the trunk on the elephant, and other animals Pin the tail on the donkey, etc.
