CHRISTMAS TREE
(Celebrations)
Subject: Mathematics
Cross-curricular links: English language, Art, Humans and their world, Humans and the world of work
Target language: Christmas tree, decorations (star, bell, comet, candle)
Time: 15 minutes
Materials: worksheet, crayons, glue, scissors
- Give the children the handout. Write numbers 0 to 10 on the board and write one colour below each number.
- The children answer the sums written on the Christmas tree. The children will look at their answer and look on the board to see which colour corresponds to that number (e.g. 5=red). Then they will colour the decorations and the parts of the tree accordingly: “Work out these sums and then colour the Christmas tree.“
- The children will work by themselves and then they will compare their trees with each other or the whole class can work out the sums together and then colour their own handout once they know the correct answer and the corresponding colour.
- At the end of the activity you can use the pictures from the previous handout (Presents) – cut out the gifts and stick them on under Christmas tree: “Cut out the presents and place them under the tree.“
