STAND UP IF…
(Clothes)
Subject: Humans and their world
Cross-curricular links: English language
Time: 5-10 minutes
- The children can stay seated or sit on the floor in a circle.
- Give instructions [such as “be a/an (animal)”] to a select group of children according to what clothes the children are wearing (see classroom language below).
Classroom language (examples):
Stand up if you’re wearing a T-shirt.
Stand up if you’re wearing a jumper/sweater.
Stand up if you’re wearing shoes
Stand up if you’re wearing trousers.
Variation:
Add some variety to this game and extend it for more advanced children by using colours and clothes to select a group of children or two colours and clothes i.e. “Stand up if you’re wearing blue and yellow socks.“ If a child shows you they have a splash of that colour on their T-shirt (for example) you can say “Yes, it is (colour) but it’s too small“ showing with your fingers and facial expression that there is not enough colour there to be said to be wearing that colour.
Note:
The activity can be adapted to practise any vocabulary.
