BLANKET GAME
(Clothes)

Subject: Humans and their world

Target language: red hat, blue hat, green gloves, pink jacket, brown shoes, umbrella, black trousers
Time: 15 minutes
Materials: sheet/blanket, real clothes/flashcards

  • Use the sheet/blanket to create a screen (either two students hold up the blanket or use a clothesline/string and pins; you may also use two chairs over which you throw the blanket). The person behind the screen must not be seen.
  • Select a student who hides behind the screen and puts on clothes and accessories prepared for him/her, e.g. a red hat.
  • The rest of the class asks in chorus: “What are you wearing?” The person standing behind the screen replies: “I’m wearing a hat” or “I’m wearing a red hat.”
  • Have each student say if the person behind the screen is bluffing or telling the truth. Those who think he/she is telling the truth stand up. Those who think he/she is bluffing remain seated.
  • Finally, the person comes up in front of the class. If he/she is wearing a red hat, those who did not trust him/her are out of the game. If he/she s not wearing a red hat but a black coat, those who trusted him/her are out of the game and have to sit down; those who are seated yet still in the game then stand up for another round.

Variation:

Each student has two cards: TRUE and FALSE. The person hidden behind the screen decides whether he/she puts the red hat on or not. The rest of the class raises one of their cards. Those who made a wrong guess sit down; they remain seated until the next round. For younger students, instead of using the TRUE/FALSE cards, draw X and ? marks on the cards.
