OLD McDONALD’S FARM (DVD)
(Animals)

• By now the children should have some confidence naming several farmyard animals and therefore play the DVD clip for the first time with pauses.
• Pause the DVD clip as Steve says “and on that farm he had a…” and before the animal is shown.
• Ask the children to guess what they will see. Ask: “What’s next? A pig, a cow? Can you guess?”
• Resume the DVD to see if the children were correct and pause again before the next animal.
• During the last scene make a final pause, show the individual animals and get the children to name them in English.
• Turn off the DVD player and divide the children into groups.
• Show the pupils the handout and demonstrate that the pupils will be asked to cut out the individual animal pictures and then sort the animals into those that were on the DVD and those that weren’t (cut out the pictures yourself before the class if time is short).
• Now the children should have a pile of animals that were featured in the DVD. Ask them to put the animals in the same order as on the DVD.
• Finish by playing the DVD a second time and checking the order together.
